Tank Trailer Guide
Know what liquids you want to transport
Different fuels have different requirements, so the materials used to build gasoline, diesel and cooking oil tank trailers will vary. Different fuels have different chemical and physical properties, which largely determine the choice of tank trailer.
Petrol and Diesel. Tank trailers used to transport gasoline and diesel are usually made of carbon steel. Carbon steel tank trailers are a low-cost construction and, most importantly, easy to machine. You can also choose from stainless steel and aluminum alloy tank trailers. However, both options can be costly.
edible oil. This is usually transported in an aluminum alloy tank trailer as it avoids contaminating the liquid. Aluminum trailers also have great advantages in cleanup. Likewise, the body is completely encapsulated with insulating material, helping to minimize heat loss. Not only that, but it's a lightweight structure that provides effective volumetric capacity, unlike steel trailer structures that tend to be a bit heavy.
Choose the right size
Tank Thickness - The thickness of the tank is very important. A thicker fuel tank is always recommended, especially if a lot of fuel is to be transported. The thickness of the material used in the construction is an important factor in determining the life of the tank. Replacing is something you don't want to do very often. Therefore, the thickness should be one that can last for a considerable period of time. You need to put your odds in your favor. The thickness of the material used in the trailer construction determines its durability. Manufacturers tend to cut corners on this requirement to save material at the expense of your tank performance and durability. Therefore, aluminum tank trailers stick to 1/8 inch thickness, steel trailers are 12 inches thick, and stainless tank trailers are 14 inches thick.
Fuel Tank Capacity - You can choose according to the capacity of the fuel tank. It will depend on the amount of fuel you are transporting to meet your needs. If your needs are too high, choose a trailer that will help you with several trips and the number you need.
Tank Shapes - There are different tank shapes. These include circles, ovals and rectangles. Their gravity-height ratio is 1:0.79:0.65. This way, you can choose the exact specification you need. You can make your choice by considering reducing trailer length and increasing capacity or lowering the center of gravity. A tank with a lower center of gravity improves stability, so choosing the right shape can help you achieve that.
Tank Trailer Safety
You need to make sure your tank trailer is shock resistant. Some important checks to confirm compliance with this requirement are the quality of the emergency valve.
In the event of an accident, the emergency valve should remain intact and ensure that the oil does not leak.
Another safety feature to check is the static eliminator, as static can create sparks and won't work with tank trailers.
Make sure your tank has been pressure tested. Ask the manufacturer if the tank trailer is leak tested. They have a chance to do so.
Learn more about whether they use a 100% leak test (SPC) or 5 psi. Accepting the Supreme People's Court was not a wise decision.
You will involve a lot of risk. SPC means that testing is usually done with some random sample that is stress tested to determine the condition of the trailer.
SPC processes are not guaranteed. In this case, it is important to conduct a thorough leak test at 5 psi to eliminate the risk of a trailer with pinholes.
When it comes to this requirement, don't let the manufacturer give you an empty talk. Instead, let them test the tank thoroughly. Again, regarding safety, be sure of the coating you make.
In many geographic locations, road salt and salt in the ocean air in coastal areas is one of the biggest hazards for metal tank trailers.
Therefore, determine the type of coating used to protect the tank trailer from these factors. Make sure your tank is painted with a rust-proof enamel or powder coat to prevent rusting from salt.
